The Benefits Of Vacuuming Your Home Often

edit

When you own a home, there are usually a series of tasks to help keep your living space in tip-top shape. From mowing the lawn to wiping down the counters in your kitchen, the list goes on and on. But one of the most essential chores to complete, weekly, is vacuuming. Now, if you’re prone to putting off this vital task, that could spell trouble; here’s why you should clean your flooring as often as possible:

Why Should I Vacuum on a Weekly Basis?

Believe it or Not, Your Flooring Traps Allergens

Think about it: When you come in from a long day at work, there’s a chance that you trek through your home with your shoes on. If that’s the case, there are various allergens (and other forms of germs/bacteria) that cling to the soles of your footwear. And when you walk across a carpeted or wooden floor (yes, wood, too), those allergens stick to the surface and linger around much longer than you’d like them to.

Here’s What Could Happen If You Don’t Vacuum Often

Now, if you forego vacuuming your home at least once a week, these “hidden” allergens can go airborne — which isn’t ideal for your indoor air quality. Additionally, the dirt and debris in your flooring can even bring on indoor allergies. And just like seasonal allergies, symptoms such as watery eyes, a runny nose, and bouts of sneezing, can indicate that your indoor air quality is less than stellar — cue the vacuum cleaner.

How to Help Improve Your Indoor Air Quality

To keep your home at top-tier, in terms of indoor air quality, it’s best to run your vacuum over your flooring at least once-a-week (minimum). And if you’re looking to take things up a notch, consider purchasing a vacuum cleaner with a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. A HEPA filter has a very fine mesh that will help remove the smallest of debris (i.e., dust mites) from your flooring.

Other ways to help improve your indoor air quality include, but are not limited to:

  • Have a whole-home humidifier installed.

  • Replace your air filters at least every two-to-three months.

  • Schedule an air quality test for your home with a professional.
